ImageWorld Vision supported two training courses on anti human trafficking held by the National Steering Committee of Plan of Action Against Crime of Trafficking in Women and Children (Plan 130/CP) on March 11-14 and 23-27 in northern border provinces of Yen Bai and Dien Bien.

With the trainee-centered approach, the courses provided participants with overview of the Plan 130/CP, relevant issues to international and Vietnamese laws, prevention, protection, prosecution and policies on human trafficking as well as domestic and international cooperation in the fight against human trafficking.

The participants were more than 100 representatives of 130/CP Sub Steering Committees from towns and districts in the two provinces including those from departments and divisions of Judiciary; Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Women Union, Public Security and Border Guards.

“The training course has helped us have better understanding of the National Plan of Action as well as necessary skills to work on anti crime against human trafficking, especially women and children at our local levels”, said Pham Thi Minh Hang of Women Union in Van Yen District, Yen Bai Province.

The training courses were the first inter-agency ones for local staff working on preventing trafficking in women and children, according to Le Van Chuong, Head of Office of the National Steering Committee of National Plan 130/CP. They were also parts of the Regional Advocacy Anti-Child Trafficking Project  (RACTP) of World Vision, to support the implementation of Vietnam’s National Plan of Action Against Crime of Trafficking in Women and Children.

Vietnam discovered more than 900 cases of human trafficking with over 2,400 victims, between 2005 and 2007, according to a report by the Ministry of Public Security. The victims were mostly women and children, who were trafficked abroad for sexual exploitation, forced marriage and labor abuse.

Approved by Prime Minister in July 2004, the National Plan of Action 130/CP for the period 2004-2010 focuses on four main components: prevention education and communication; combating and prosecution; receipt and support to trafficked persons; development and strengthening of legal framework.
