Nearly 700 disabled children and adults are participating in a number of out-door activities held by World Vision in cooperation with local authorities on occasion of National Day of Persons with Disabilities on April 18.

Traditional games, drawing, music performance and handisport competitions have taken place for people with disabilities in Hai Lang and Trieu Phong Area Development Programs (ADPs) in Quang Tri, Hoa Vang ADP in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City Urban ADP from April 13 till April 18.

Organized annually, the activities aim to provide disabled children and adults a chance to enjoy their social life and improve their health conditions, to increase their participation in social events and raise local awareness toward people with disabilities.

Currently, World Vision is supporting 32 self-help groups of adults living with disabilities and clubs for disabled children with 1,140 members.

Official statistics reveal that Vietnam has more than 5.3 million disabled people which account for 6.34% population. Around two million are children with disabilities. Disabilities among children mainly arise from congenital defects, various diseases, war-related injuries, and accidents.
