Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) provides the means for donors in developed countries to make their donation a physical reality. It enhances ongoing development activities in a particular community, providing material support to meet individual and community needs. WVV has been using GIK as a development resource since 1991.
In Vietnam, GIK is often used as a program input in WVV Area Development Programs (ADPs), providing children and their families with the necessary resources and basic supplies to improve their standard of living.
The most common types of GIK in Vietnam include: simple medical equipment, medical supplies, essential drugs, stationary, school kits, books, blankets, children’s shoes, toys and clothing for children and adults.
GIK also boosts the quality and impact of activities, which are ongoing but are under-resourced. It allows needy families to use their limited finances on everyday items such as food, and helps build relationships with partner agencies and government entities. GIK is a visible sign of World Vision Vietnam's ongoing commitment to support and transform the lives of people living in poverty.
